On March 1st 2010, the mayor of the capital of Kansas consulted with the city council and, winning their approval, signed an official proclamation calling for the city of Topeka to be known as "Google, Kansas, - the capital city of fiber optics". This was a genuine and unique pitch to bring GOOGLE's Fiber Experiment, building a high speed broadband network in random communities this year, to Topeka. This lasted a month. On April 1st GOOGLE responded by changing its name to TOPEKA. GOOGLE officially changed its name to 
& on its search page TOPEKA pops up in its special logo font with multicolored letters as the search engine's name! This lasted a day. TOPEKA is an Indian word & means "a good place to grow potatoes". April 1 is all Fools Day.
